Halloween in Las Vegas - Pumpkin Patch at Gilcrease Orchards 2011

Halloween in Las Vegas brings us parents looking for pumpkin patches and photo opportunities.  Although they sprout up in vacant parking lots all over town, we do have an actual orchard where we can pick pumpkins!  Halloween in Las Vegas is great fun for families and at Gilcrease Orchards you get to have the pumpkin picking experience.

Gilcrease Orchards  has already set up their straw maze for the fall season. The maze is larger than last year. Parents, please keep your children from climbing on the bales of straw. This will make it safer and it will last longer.

They still have a lot of sweet potatoes. Once dug with a potato digger they can be picked right of the ground.  They also still have "Edamame" Soybeans. *Try to pick the fatter pods first. This will allow the smaller ones to mature later.

Starting Saturday, September 24th, they will start to make their tasty "apple cider" donuts. They are a mini donut made on site from the Gilcrease made apple cider.

The following produce is available for picking:
Sweet potatoes, Edamame Soybeans, Green and Yellow Patty Patty Pan Squash, Straight Neck Yellow Squash, green and yellow zucchini, cucumbers, (limited okra, peppers, and eggplant), all for $1.00 per lb

The following is available at the checkout stand:
Apple cider     $1- 1/2 pints,  $2-  pints  and  $4- 1/2 gallons
Pears     $1.00 lb
Melons   $.50 lb
Watermelon   $.25 lb

Halloween in Las Vegas kicks off when Gilcrease Orchards opens for the
pumpkin  patch picking October 1st, 2011.

Come early for the best selection and to avoid the heat!  *Please leave your pets at home for food safety reasons. Gilcrease Orchards is open Tuesdays Thursdays and Saturdays from 7:00 am to 12:00 noon.  Entrance is free if you walk the orchard, for cars there is a $3 entrance fee.  *Wide wheel strollers seem to do better then the regular strollers but I've walked it with both types fine.  Bring bags to hold your pickings and consider bringing gloves and small vine cutters/shears.  There are porta-potties though out the orchard.  CASH ONLY
