National Night Out is a nationwide event held on the First Tuesday in August to promote a strong partnership between local law enforcement agencies and communities. 2010 brings the 27th annual event.  36 million people in 15,000 communities across the US and Canada took part in 2009 and more will join in the fun this year.

Last year's National Night Out campaign involved citizens, law enforcement agencies, civic groups, businesses, neighborhood organizations and local officials from over 15,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases worldwide. In all, over 36 million people participated in National Night Out 2009.


NATIONAL NIGHT OUT is designed to:
Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness
Generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime programs
Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships
Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
Town Square Event
Town Square and LVMPD South Central Command will host the "27th Annual National Night Out", a unique crime/drug prevention event sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch. Join us for live music, free food from Town Square Restaurants and activities for kids!

Date: August 3
Time: 5pm-9pm.

The community centric event will featuring law enforcement agencies, civic groups, neighborhood organizations and local officials coming together to:

Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness;
Generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime programs;
Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and
Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back!
The following locations will host National Night Out events open to the general public:


Walnut Recreation Center Park will be hosting a National Night Out and Back to School Fair tomorrow night between 5:00 pm - 8:30 pm.
There will be free food, entertainment, school supplies, including backpacks, trackless train, immunizations (with your shot record), all while supplies last!

Cambridge Recreation Center 3930 Cambridge 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m

Spring Mountain Ranch 8450 N. Fort Apache 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.

Henderson Events Plaza 200 S. Water St.
The Henderson Police Department plans to host its National Night Out event from 6-8:30 p.m.

Crime prevention specialists will provide a 20-minute crime presentation at each location as time permits.

Ward 1
Councilwoman Lois Tarkanian will be taking part in the Back-to-School & National Night Out Celebration in the Clark High School cafeteria at 4291 Pennwood Ave. from 6 to 8 p.m. Free school supplies for children ages 5 to 16, Strengthening Families Tool Kits from Sesame Workshop Scholastic Books, and light refreshments will be distributed while supplies last. Community vendors and low-cost children's vaccinations will be available. A child's shot records must be brought to the event in order to take advantage of available vaccinations. This event is sponsored by Councilwoman Tarkanian, K.E.E.N., National PTA Urban Family Engagement Initiative, Target, Terrible Herbst Oil Company and the Metro Police. Ward 6
Councilman Steven D. Ross and the Spring Mountain Ranch community from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the community park at 8450 N. Fort Apache Road. Families will enjoy live entertainment and games. Mayor Goodman is scheduled to stop by during the evening. Representatives from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, Nevada Highway Patrol, AMR, Las Vegas Fire and Rescue, Detention and Enforcement, Animal Control and Parking Enforcement will be on hand to answer questions and provide helpful information.

Councilman Ross said, "This is an opportunity for citizens to show their support for our local law enforcement and to meet their neighbors."

Ward 4
Councilman Stavros S. Anthony will attend the National Night Out event at Desert Shores Laguna, located at 2500 Regatta Drive. Organized by the homeowners' association, the event is scheduled from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. There will be swimming, music, prizes, hot dogs, soft drinks, popcorn and cotton candy, while supplies last. Mayor Goodman plans to attend at 5:30 p.m. Representatives from Metro Police and Las Vegas Fire and Rescue will be on hand to answer questions.
