8/20 , Insect Exploration: Come out to Red Rock Canyon and join Missy with your 3-10 year olds for a program all about insects found in Red Rock Canyon. We will learn about how insects are an important part of Red Rock Canyon. Children will participate in a craft and a hands on activity. Limited space.
8/21, Torts for Tots: Bring your 2-10 year olds out at Red Rock Canyon for a great program with Missy all about Nevada’s state reptile the Desert Tortoise. Children will learn interesting facts, do a hands-on activity and discover how amazing Nevada’s state reptile really is! Limited space.
8/23, Monday on the Mount: For the experienced hiker, or a newbie to Fletcher Canyon, join Jen on this hike is definitely worth the drive to Mt. Charleston! We will travel through gorgeous scenery and through a slot canyon that is sure to please. Moderate, 4 miles.
8/24, Camp Red Rock- Week 8: School’s out for the summer! Join Jen every Tuesday afternoon, kids can get together for Camp Red Rock and spend the summer learning about the many wonders of Red Rock Canyon! For Week 8, we’ll wrap up the summer with a visit to the petroglyph wall and around the Willow Springs trail. We’ll learn about some of the early Native American culture of Red Rock Canyon. Ages 3-10 year olds. Limited space.
8/26, Tort Talks: Join Janis for some fun filled facts about Nevada’s state reptile, the desert tortoise. Ongoing talks around the Visitor Center, 09:30-11:00am. No sign up is required.
8/27, Toadly Frogs: Come out to Red Rock Canyon with your 2-10 year olds for a program with Missy all about the toads and frogs found in Red Rock Canyon. We will learn about the life cycle of these amphibians and how they are important to Red Rock Canyon. Children will participate in a craft and a hands-on activity. Limited space.
8/27, Canyon Clean Up: Join Janis and help keep Red Rock Canyon clean and beautiful! Meet new people and get out and volunteer. Limited space.
8/27, Upper Bristlecone/Bonanza Trail: Join Claire on a hike where you will enjoy the first half of the forested upper Bristlecone Trail and head up a small portion of the Bonanza Tail making this moderate hike a 5.5 mile out-and-back trail. We’ll keep our eyes open for wood peckers, hummingbirds, and other birds that make this area their home. Ages 15+. Limited space.
8/28, Story time at the Rock: Join Janis for story time at Red Rock Canyon and learn about the Mojave Desert. No sign up is required. This is an ongoing program from 10:00 to 11:30.
8/28 Earth Tones: Kids and adults will love to swirl and twirl their paintbrushes at this nature-based art class. Bring the whole family out and join Jen to dive into a world of color and creativity through painting! No experience necessary, all supplies are included. Ages 4+. Limited Space.
8/30, Monday on the Mount: Join Jen for another Monday at Mt. Charleston. It’s a whole different world up there for us to explore at Mary Jane Falls as we go in search of a seasonal waterfall and blooming spring flowers. Moderately strenuous, 3 miles 1040 feet gain.

9/3, Red Rock Kids: Join Missy out at Red Rock Canyon with your 2-10 year olds for a program all about Red Rock’s exhibits. We will tour the outdoor exhibits with an activity, a craft and a story. Limited space.
9/3, Stanley B. Springs: Join Claire on this 2.5 mile, shaded out-and-back trail that gradually climbs to the remains of an old mine along Stanley Springs. We’ll see a variety of butterflies, birds, and plant life along the way. Moderate. Ages 15+. Limited space.
9/4, Rockin’ Rhythms: Join Missy and Jen in the exploration of animal movements and rhythms. From the bighorn sheep to the hairy tarantula, kids will get into the motions of the critters of Red Rock Canyon.
9/5, Corn Creek Spring Walk: Corn Creek Spring rises to the surface at a fault and feeds three ponds at the headquarters of the Desert National Wildlife Refuge. It is a major bird watching area and is prime habitat for aquatic plants and animals. Join Bob during the morning to observe all these creatures in a surprising historical setting. Easy, 1/2 mile.
9/6, Monday on the Mount: Join Jen on one of the easier hikes of Mount Charleston, we’ll head up the Stanley B. Springs trail for great views of Mummy Mountain and Cockscomb Ridge, as well as distant views across the valley. Moderate, 4 miles 800 ft. elevation gain.
9/7, Little Zion: Experience a dramatic sandstone valley behind the edge of the escarpment on this 6 mile out-and-back hike with 1,400 ft. elevation gain. Little Zion is nestled between Sandstone and Monument Peaks, this idyllic spot offers lots of sandstone formations and a fantastic view from directly above Bonnie Springs Ranch. Strenuous. 9/10, Cactus Kids: Join Missy out at Red Rock Canyon with your 3-10 year olds for a fun and interactive program all about the different types of cactus that are in Red Rock Canyon. Children will do a hands-on activity, a craft and learn how cool cacti really are!

9/10, Rain Tree: Come visit with Claire one of the oldest treasures on Mount Charleston, a bristlecone pine tree that is approximately 3,000 years old. Learn some interesting facts about these amazing trees on this strenuous, 6 mile out-and- back hike that takes on about 1500 ft. of elevation. Ages 15+. Limited space.
9/11, Jr. Naturalists: Come bring your kids out and join Jen for a fun program about the reptiles of the Mojave Desert. Participants will get to learn cool facts, hear a story, and get to complete a special art project. Ages 2-5 year olds. Limited space.
9/11, Second Saturday Salon: Come listen to John McGuire from Wind Sail Receptor, a company pioneering a new approach to wind energy. He will discuss some of the critical reasons behind finding alternative energy through wind power, and the revolutionary technology that is currently being developed in Boulder City that could affect the way we use and look at wind energy all over the world. 9/11, Delamar Ghost Town Road Trip: Let’s celebrate the end of summer with a road trip! Known as “the Widowmaker,” the gold mining town of Delamar is packed full of history. Once home to 1500 souls, Delamar is now abandoned. Join Aaron to explore this area, and learn about gold mining and pioneer history. This area is very remote, and the gravel road is not suitable for small cars. Moderate, 3 miles. Ages 12+. Limited space.
9/12, Fall Wildflowers & Springs: Join Bob and visit several of Red Rock Canyon’s 42 springs (including Mormon Green and Wheeler Camp Springs) as we look for Red Rock Canyon’s fall wildflowers. This is also a good hike to see burros, birds, and aquatic creatures, and to view some of the history of the area. Moderate, 2.5 miles. Limited space.
9/13, Monday on the Mount: Join Jen at Mount Charleston for a hike around the Rainbow trail area. We’ll explore well-used trails through rock formations, snaking through water features, and will be on the lookout for Spring Mountain wildlife. Moderate, 4 miles.
9/14, Art…Naturally: Join Jen and come try painting at Red Rock! This Tuesday bring yourself and a love for nature as we create a masterpiece worth showing off! This is a “no pressure” all fun art class! No experience is necessary and all supplies are included. Ages 15+. Limited Space.

9/17, North Loop/ Wild Horse Canyon: Hike with Claire and breathe in the fresh air on this shaded trail as we hike up approximately 900 feet to a breezy meadow that offers a spectacular view of mountain ranges in the distance, returning through a forested canyon once home to a wild horse. Moderate, 3.5 miles. Ages 15+. Limited space.
9/17 Red Rock Canyon Animals: Join Bob at the Visitor Center and view the diversity of animals and animal types found in the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area. Living and preserved specimens will be on display and discussions and questions are encouraged. No signup is required. This program is ongoing from 10-noon.
9/18, Humming with the Hummingbirds: Come out and join Missy with your 2-10 year olds for a fun and interactive program all about hummingbirds. Children will learn how amazing hummingbirds really are; do a hands- on activity, and a craft. Limited space.

9/18, Astronomy Program: Come join the Las Vegas Astronomical Society will have member telescopes to view objects in our night sky. No sign ups are necessary. The program is from 6:30 pm- 9:30 pm at the Visitor Center. Gate closes at 7. A $7 entrance fee per vehicle will be charged.
9/20, Monday on the Mount: Hike with Jen along the North Loop Trail to one of the oldest trees of Mount Charleston, the Rain Tree. This large bristlecone pine is quite a sight after the long uphill journey to its location, but it is worth every step of the way. Ages 10+.
9/21, Mountain Spring Peak: Come experience the back country of the Rainbow Wilderness Area with Chris on this 7-mile loop hike with great views of Red Rock and the escarpment. We will pass geologic wonders and the springs that are above the small community at the summit on Highway 160. Strenuous. Limited space.

9/23, Fossil Ridge Full Moon Hike: Join Aaron for a hike at Fossil Ridge, which sits opposite to Red Rock Canyon, making it a great place to catch views of the mountains as the sun sets. We’ll also get to see the full moon rise, and the sky fill with stars. Bring a flashlight. Moderate, 3 miles. Limited space.
9/24, Red Spring Walk: Join Missy and bring your 2-10 year olds for a fun and interactive program all about Red Spring. Children will learn about the history of Red Spring and how important it is to Red Rock Canyon. We will listen to a story, participate in a craft and so much more! Easy, ½ mile. Limited space.

9/25, Classic Hikes- Turtlehead Peak: Join Aaron in celebrating the return of hiking weather with a classic Red Rock hike! Turtlehead Peak is one of the most accessible mountains in the conservation area, and one of the most rewarding. From Sandstone Quarry, the hike climbs to a summit with 360 degree views. At the top, we’ll look over all the other places to explore in Red Rock! It’s a classic! Strenuous, 5 miles. Ages 15+. Limited space.
9/26, Beginner Mountain Biking: Whether you’re new to mountain biking or you are unfamiliar with the trails, join Jen and John for a relaxed ride in North Cottonwood along the Mustang Loop. No experience is necessary, but you do need to provide your own gear. Moderate, 6-7 miles. Ages 10+. Limited space.
9/27, Monday on the Mount: Join Jen on this hike to Cathedral Rock, which is a must for anyone interested in great views of the Spring Mountains. This hike is uphill to the summit, but well worth the effort. Moderate, 3 miles.
9/28, Woof Walk: Don’t leave Fido at home! Bring your dog out for a stroll along the Lost Creek and Willow Creek trails. We’ll enjoy a hike that leads us up close to the escarpment and possibly a seasonal waterfall. Red Rock is sure to be more scenic than the dog park! Easy, 3 miles.
9/28, Gray Cap Peak: Join Chris on one of the best scrambling hikes origination at Sandstone Quarry, the route to Gray Cap climbs through upper Gateway Canyon and lots of Sandstone ridges and cuts. Strenuous, about 5 miles with 2000 ft. elevation gain. Limited space.
